Park
Congregational
chapel, shuttleworth.
Welcome to this page of the Summerseat site,
although this chapel is just outside the
Summerseat boundary,
I do feel that it would be of interest to many
of the visitors to this site.
I would like to thank Christine Darrock for
sending me some useful information regarding Park Chapel.
I have placed a few photos on this page,
which include the War Memorial, together with some information regarding the chapel, please finish
reading this page before you visit the headstones and M.I's, as I
have placed some interesting information here for you to see.
I have taken photos of the headstones,
together with the vaults from the cemetery of the church, and you
can view these over the next three pages, together with the full monumental
Inscriptions which I also transcribed from the headstones.
There are 151
graves to view, now I could not photo a
few headstones, as these were in such a position that you could
not
see the inscriptions.
I do hope that you find these pages useful in
your research, and please be patient for them to open,
as they are fairly large files,
with many photos.
You can click on the images and they
will open up in a new window.

The Chapel was founded in 1798, and was
known as Park Independent Chapel.
It was rebuilt in 1866.
It is now closed, but I do not know
the date that this happened.
The chapel is going to be converted into
apartments - see article further down this page.
The Independent churches were ones in which each congregation upheld
the principles of independence.
In the 19th century they became known as
Congregational.
In 1972 the Congregational church joined with the English
Presbyterian church to become the United Reformed Church.
A New Chapter in the History of the Former Park
Congregational Chapel.
Here I have placed some newspaper cuttings
from the Bury Times, dated 18th November 2010,
that gives details of a conversion of yet
another former Chapel - Namely Park Congregational Chapel.
You can click on the images below, and they
will open up in a new window.
