You can read much about the village of Summerseat on this site,
before you view the other pages, please take a look at this page
first.
As here I have placed news items about the village,
that I feel some of you may be interested in.

Here is a piece that I have copied from The London Gazette,
dated Friday 9th June 1945.
Central Chancery Of The Orders Of Knighthood
St. James's Palace, SW1
8th June 1945
The KING has been graciously pleased to approve
the following awards of the George Medal in recognition
of conspicuous gallantry in carrying out
hazardous work in a very brave manner,

This old Photo was sent to me by Kenneth, whose Gt
Gt Grandfather Robert Becconsall, who lived at
'The Pines' in Summerseat, he was the
station master at Summerseat station for 38 years,
but later came to run the Summerseat Gas Works.
It would be so nice to be able to put some names
to the people who are in this photo,
and I would love to hear from you if you can help
with this.

I have added a few more pages to the site.
Park Independent/Congregational Chapel, Shuttleworth, Bury,
Lancashire.
Although this is just over the Summerseat boundary,
I am sure that many of you will find these pages of interest.
The Chapel was founded in 1798, and was
known as Park Independent Chapel.
It was rebuilt in 1866.
It is now closed, but I do not know
the date that this happened.
The chapel is going to be converted into
apartments
I have also taken photos of 151 grave
headstones from the cemetery of the chapel, together with the full
monumental inscriptions, which I have done.
Please make a visit to these new pages, and
I do hope that some of the information which
I have placed on the
pages, will help many people who are researching their family
ancestors.

site, I do hope you find
some of your ancestors here.

There is a great site where you can view many photos of the past,
it has been set up by the Bury Museum + Archives Department.
Bury Image Bank is a comprehensive image library containing a
local history and archives database, showcasing streets and
buildings from c.1850 to the present day. Images are being added on
a regular basis and increasingly show people and organisations from
across the Borough. The database is free to search and for personal
non-commercial use.
I have placed a link here to the Home Page of the site, just type in
Summerseat into the Search Box and it will bring up many old photos
of Summerseat. The site does have many photos of Bury and I am sure
that you will spend some enjoyable times viewing the great photos of
the past.

Why not enjoy a train ride from Bury to Summerseat, I am sure
that you will find the ride very interesting, this piece of old film was taken during
1966, Click Here to see the film.

I have been sent this very good photo which shows the
Summerseat Wesleyan prize choir, 1st May 1920.
We know that the person on the front row 4th from left,
is Emily Haworth (married Daniel Bamford). Then Ernest Heys is the
man on the left (probably the conductor as he is carrying a baton).
He was the Chief Designer at the mill, and was gifted musically - he
retired to Torquay and was the organist at the church in his later
life.
It would be great if we can
place more names of the people who are in the photo, so if you
happen to know any of the choir members,
then please
.

Many thanks to Jen Grady who sent me the copy of the photo, and
also for allowing me to place it on the Summerseat Web Site.

You can now view some very old
photos of the team members of Brooksbottoms Cricket Club of
Summerseat, that date back to the
1800's, together with a few newspaper cuttings. I am sure that you find these of interest.

C.C Chairman, for sending these to me and allowing me to share them
with you, by placing them on this site.

which relate to the opening of the railway, and also one that
relates to a fatal railway accident which occurred close to
