I do hope that you enjoy your visit to the Summerseat web site.
This site is dedicated to
information about Summerseat, which is a village about 8
miles North of Manchester, and 2 miles North of Bury, which are in
Lancashire, UK.
I have had many really nice e-mails from so many
people from around the world that have enjoyed their visit to this site.
There is a great site where you can view many photos of the past,
it has been set up by the Bury Museum + Archives Department.
Bury Image Bank is a comprehensive image library containing a
local history and archives database, showcasing streets and
buildings from c.1850 to the present day. Images are being added on
a regular basis and increasingly show people and organisations from
across the Borough. The database is free to search and for personal
non-commercial use.
I have placed a link here to the Home Page of the site, just type in
Summerseat into the Search Box and it will bring up many old photos
of Summerseat. The site does have many photos of Bury and I am sure
that you will spend some enjoyable times viewing the great photos of
the past.
I have placed Transcriptions that
I have done of the 1841, 1871 & 1881 censuses of Summerseat on this
site, I do hope you find
some of your ancestors here.
Why not enjoy a train ride from Bury to Summerseat, I am sure
that you will find the ride very interesting, this piece of old film was taken during
1966, Click Here to see the film.
I have been sent this very good photo which shows the
Summerseat Wesleyan prize choir, 1st May 1920.
We know that the person on the front row 4th from left,
is Emily Haworth (married Daniel Bamford). Then Ernest Heys is the
man on the left (probably the conductor as he is carrying a baton).
He was the Chief Designer at the mill, and was gifted musically - he
retired to Torquay and was the organist at the church in his later
life.
It would be great if we can
place more names of the people who are in the photo, so if you
happen to know any of the choir members,
then please
.
Many thanks to Jen Grady who sent me the copy of the photo, and
also for allowing me to place it on the Summerseat Web Site.
You can now view some very old
photos of the team members of Brooksbottoms Cricket Club of
Summerseat, that date back to the
1800's, together with a few newspaper cuttings. I am sure that you find these of interest.
I would like to thank Mark Richardson, who is the Brooksbottom
C.C Chairman, for sending these to me and allowing me to share them
with you, by placing them on this site.
If
you happen to have any information that you think would go well on
this site, including photos, then please contact me, as I would be
only to pleased to accommodate further interesting pieces about
Summerseat.
This
site is a branch from our main Ward Family Website, and I do hope

Here is a lovely bit of history, as you can
now travel on this short train ride from Bury to Stubbins, stopping
at Summerseat and Ramsbottom stations. This film was taken in 1966.
I really do hope that you enjoy your ride.
You may find the 'Opening of the ELR' page
of interest, as I have
placed a few very old newspaper cuttings that I have come across
which relate to the opening of the railway, and also one that
relates to a fatal railway accident which occurred close to
